Dr. Pardis Mahdavi is an Iranian-American anthropologist, author, keynote speaker, and former university president. After twenty-five years in American higher education as a professor, dean, provost, and president, she now serves as Executive Director of the Executive Leadership Academy at UC Berkeley.
She is the author of seven books and two edited volumes, with two new titles arriving in 2026. Her work explores higher education, leadership, culture, and the forces reshaping our institutions and communities. Her commentary has appeared in TIME, The Washington Post, Foreign Affairs, and the Los Angeles Times.
